The EPFL 7-a-side Finals 2018

What another fantastic year of football for Clyst Heath in the Exeter Primary Football League!

Thank you to all players who have contributed so much effort to both of our teams in the A and B leagues this year. We have had a lot of success in team effort, sportsmanship and even the odd wonder goal or save!

Final standings of the regular league:

Our Year 5 Group B team finished a respectable 6thplace in League B, having given everything in many close finishes, often being pipped by an unstoppable shot in the last few moments. They kept their heads up and always gave a good account of their team and our school.

Our Year 6 Group A team finished in 2ndplace in the regular season, having worked hard to climb up and maintain their dominance at the top of the league. This meant they gained automatic qualification for the Knockout Finals.

The Knockout Finals:

On a very hot and sunny Monday, Group A entered the quarter finals with a difficult match against League B winners Stoke Hill. They played excellently and finished the game with a commanding 3-0 lead. On to the semi-finals…

In the semi-finals, they faced League B runners up, Montgomery, who had just won a close match against Broadclyst. The match was tense and close for most of the first half. Our team was then able to breakdown their defence and worked their socks off to see the game out with a second 3-1 victory. The second semi-final ended in a penalty shoot-out, with Whipton Barton victorious over Pinhoe. On to the final…

The final was a very tense game! The team had to work hard in the growing heat to keep up the pressure they had used in the previous round, whilst pushing forward to find a winner. After the opening exchanges, Clyst Heath found a hole in the opposition defence and took the lead. Our team dug deep and played impressively by adding to this lead and eventually winning 3-1 to become EPFL Champions for the first time!

Our Support

We would like to take this time to also thank every adult who has come across to support, cheer, console and provide snacks throughout the year. It did not go unnoticed! Without you being the ‘8thperson’ it would not have been possible! We know the teams would agree that your cheers of encouragement helped to get those extra few points and contributed to our success.  Thank you!

Mr Wightman, Miss Campbell, Mrs Conibear and Mrs Cole.
